SEND, English, Verbal Reasoning

My passion for working with dyslexic students originates from personal experience with my son, whose own special educational needs required me to develop a deeper understanding of the challenges he faced. This has fostered a desire for me to help children with special educational needs reach their full potential. I have an OCR Level 5 Diploma in Teaching Learners with Dyslexia and other SpLDs and a BA (Hons) degree in English Literature.

I tutor mainly primary and lower secondary students in literacy and basic numeracy. Through creative and engaging, structured, multi-sensory lessons - tailored to strengths and specific needs - I aim to close gaps in understanding, build automaticity, enjoyment in learning, confidence and ultimately independence! Before teaching I will normally administer a fun, informal non-diagnostic assessment - a mix of both standardised and non-standardised tests and tasks that inform teaching targets and specific long-term needs, allowing me to monitor progress. Alternatively, I can deliver the teaching directly from a current specialist teacher-assessor or EP report.
