James

English Tutor - GCSE and A-Level

I studied at Eton College, where I was a House Prefect. I was a member of the 1st XV rugby team and also House Captain of Rugby, Cricket, Football and Rowing.

My degree studies took me to the University of Edinburgh, where I completed an MA with Hons in English Literature and Language and from there I went to Oxford Brookes University to study a CPE Postgraduate Diploma in Law. This course was very enjoyable and challenging, however, I decided against a career in law, turning instead to a career in education.

I have been teaching English Literature and Language for 15 years, including 6 years at an independent secondary school in Oxford; I’m also CELTA qualified, with over 5000 hours' experience teaching English as a Foreign Language and IELTS. I have helped hundreds of students to achieve the best possible grades in their English GCSE exams, and I have also helped lots of students at 11+, 13+, 16+ level (including interview) to receive offers from schools such as Westminster, Winchester, St Paul's, Wycombe Abbey, Cheltenham Ladies, City of London, among others. My IELTS students have a 100% record of gaining the required score to enter their first choice university.

I have a very positive, encouraging and patient approach to teaching - my lessons are fun, enjoyable and dynamic, with a great emphasis on building confidence and resilience. In addition to my role as teacher and tutor, I have mentored students who have, for various reasons, needed extra help and support. I also have a great deal of experience teaching students with SEN.
