Norma
English, History, 11+, GCSE, A Level
Following the equivalent of the IB or A levels in Ireland,, I read English and History at University College Cork, gaining a second class joint honours degree followed by a PGCE equivalent, teaching English and History, achieving a 1:1 in both teaching practice and professional studies.
As a teacher, I have gained a breadth of experience having taught English at three different secondary schools in the Greater London area over the past fifteen years. During this time, I have worked as acting Head of English and Deputy Head of English where I had responsibility for Key Stages 3 and 4. Over the past ten years, I have consistently achieved outstanding teaching judgements during Ofsted and in-house appraisals.
My tutoring experience has allowed me to develop real expertise in helping students excel, overcome learning blocks and make rapid gains in learning, which is so rewarding for me as a teacher. I have vast experience in tutoring lower school students (Years 5 and 6), having helped many gain entry into academically selective schools at 10+ and 11+ as well as supporting those studying English Language and English Literature at GCSE and English Literature at A level.
