Benenden School 11+ & 13+ Admissions Guide

Located in Kent, Benenden School is one of the premier all-girls boarding schools in the United Kingdom. Famous for its complete boarding model, innovative inquiry-led curriculum, and elite university destinations, entry into Year 7 and Year 9 requires early planning and multi-stage assessment.

Understanding the 11+ (Year 7) Journey

Families registering for 11+ entry undergo a three-part evaluation:

  • Stage 1: Preview Day: Held at Benenden, candidates participate in taster lessons, group problem-solving exercises, and an informal 1-to-1 interview.
  • Stage 2: Digital Pre-Testing: Candidates complete the online ISEB Common Pre-Test assessing English, Mathematics, Verbal Reasoning, and Non-Verbal Reasoning.
  • Stage 3: Written Task: Girls complete a creative writing assessment to demonstrate vocabulary range and structural control.

The 13+ (Year 9) Entry Process

For 13+ applicants, the assessment framework begins in Year 6:

  • ISEB Common Pre-Test: Sat during Year 6 at the candidate's current school.

  • Boarding Assessment Visit: Candidates attend a residential or day visit at Benenden, undergoing academic interviews and group activities to assess boarding suitability.

  • Offers: Conditional offers extended in Year 6 are confirmed via Year 8 Common Entrance or internal assessments.
