St Swithun’s School 11+ & 13+ Admissions Guide

Located in Winchester, Hampshire, St Swithun’s School is an independent day, weekly boarding, and full boarding school for girls aged 11 to 18. Renowned for academic excellence, independent thinking, and strong pastoral support, St Swithun's attracts high-achieving pupils from London, the South of England, and international locations. Main entry points occur at 11+ (Year 7) and 13+ (Year 9).

11+ (Year 7) Entry Process

Applications open up to two years in advance. Assessment takes place in November of Year 6:

  • Entrance Examinations: Candidates sit papers in English (comprehension and creative writing) and Mathematics (Key Stage 2 problem solving).

  • Cognitive Ability Test: An adaptive online test evaluating verbal and non-verbal reasoning skills.

  • Interview: Shortlisted girls attend an informal interview with a senior member of staff to discuss their hobbies, reading, and academic curiosity.

13+ (Year 9) Entry Process

For 13+ entry, the selection framework utilises the digital ISEB Common Pre-Test during Year 6, followed by Assessment Days and structured interview panels. Conditional offers are confirmed via Year 8 Common Entrance or St Swithun's internal scholarship examinations.
