Modern Co-Educational Distinction: Navigating the 11+ at Epsom College

Set across a stunning 85-acre estate in Surrey, Epsom College is an elite, co-educational day and boarding school. Frequently recognised at the national level for its exceptional pastoral care and academic ambition, Epsom is highly selective, seeking out pupils who will thrive in its energetic, community-minded environment.
To secure a place in Year 7, candidates must successfully navigate a dual-assessment track that combines automated reasoning with hands-on, on-site collaboration.
The Epsom College 11+ Admissions Pipeline
The evaluation process is carefully paced across the autumn and spring terms of Year 6, keeping stress levels as low as possible.
1. The ISEB Common Pre-Test (Autumn Term)
The first stage of the process is the digital, adaptive ISEB Common Pre-Test, typically taken at your child's current junior or prep school during the Autumn term. This covers:
-
English and Mathematics
-
Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning
As an adaptive test, the questions adjust in real-time based on your child's performance to establish an accurate academic baseline.
2. The January Engagement Day
Shortlisted candidates who perform well in the pre-test are invited back in January for Epsom’s signature Engagement Day.
No More Written Exams: Epsom does not require any further written testing during the second stage. Instead, children take part in group activities, sample classroom lessons, and spend time interacting with teachers. This allows the admissions team to see your child's natural personality, collaborative skills, and academic teachability.
Furthermore, Epsom does not run separate, stressful academic scholarship exams; Academic Scholarships are awarded automatically based on the strength of the ISEB results, school reports, and Engagement Day performance.
How Exceptional Academics Prepares Your Child
Epsom College wants to see who your child is when they aren't reading from a script.
At Exceptional Academics, we systematically prepare our students to maximise their digital ISEB scores. Alongside this, we run mock collaborative sessions and sample-lesson workshops to ensure they can confidently and naturally share their ideas in a group setting on Engagement Day.
