Uncompromising Female Empowerment: The 11+ Pathway at Guildford High School (GHS)

Consistently ranked among the single top-performing girls' day schools in the United Kingdom, Guildford High School delivers exceptional academic outcomes within a warm, supportive atmosphere. Entry into Year 7 is highly selective, designed to identify girls who demonstrate genuine analytical speed, curiosity, and adaptability.

The Two-Stage Selection Gauntlet

Guildford High School screens candidates through a two-stage evaluation process across the autumn and winter of Year 6:

  • Stage One: The November Cambridge Assessment: Candidates sit an online assessment provided by Cambridge University Press & Assessment over two on-site sessions. This evaluates verbal, non-verbal, and mathematical skills, isolating a girl's developed abilities and natural processing capacity without relying on mechanical exam coaching.

  • Stage Two: The January Interview Day: Candidates who perform strongly on the November assessment are invited back in January for an active, multidisciplinary day on campus. Alongside a short, informal 1-to-1 interview, girls participate in observed taster sessions ranging from science experiments and creative writing to drama, music, and PE to evaluate teamwork, listening skills, and teachability.

Our Approach

At Exceptional Academics, we train girls to balance high-speed digital reasoning logic with authentic conversational confidence. Our tailored workshops focus on spatial and verbal pattern recognition while preparing students to collaborate naturally during the activity-led Interview Day.
