Broad Horizons & Diamond Structure: The 11+ Guide to Forest School (Snaresbrook)
.png)
Located on the edge of Epping Forest in East London, Forest School is a distinguished co-educational independent day school. Forest is famous for operating a unique Diamond Structure: boys and girls share campus facilities and co-curricular activities, but are taught in single-sex academic classes from ages 7 to 16 before coming back together in the Sixth Form.
If your child is aiming for one of the roughly 100 external places in Year 7, you need to prepare for a multi-stage admissions process designed to test spatial logic, creative flair, and interview confidence.
The Forest School 11+ Selection Process
Forest School conducts its 11+ entry assessments on-site during November and December of Year 6, broken down into digital and written components.
Stage 1: Digital & Creative Writing Exams
All registered candidates sit paper and digital assessments on campus:
-
Adaptive Digital Test: A computer-based assessment measuring numerical agility, reading comprehension, verbal reasoning, and non-verbal spatial logic.
-
Creative Writing Paper: A handwritten paper where candidates respond to an unseen prompt. The admissions team looks specifically for imaginative storytelling, clear narrative structure, accurate punctuation, and varied vocabulary.
Stage 2: Individual & Academic Interviews
Shortlisted candidates who perform strongly across the Stage 1 assessments are called back for an individual interview with a senior staff member in January.
| Interview Component | Focus Area | What the Panel Evaluates |
| Personal Discussion | Object/interest brought by the student | Authenticity, depth of engagement, and self-expression. |
| Academic Challenge | Unseen passage or logic task | Problem-solving logic, teachability, and calm thinking. |
| School Values | Community & co-curriculars | How the child will contribute to wider school life. |
School Reference: Forest places immense value on the confidential reference provided directly by your child's current primary headteacher, evaluating both academic trajectory and personal conduct.
How Exceptional Academics Prepares Your Child
Because Forest combines computer-based adaptive tests with a fast-paced creative writing paper, our preparation focuses on digital speed, paper-based prose refinement, and timed exam stamina. We also conduct mock interview sessions, so students can articulate their thoughts naturally during the January panel.
