Biography

I trained at the Institute of Education (University of London), a leading teacher training provider, and in the 18 years since then have taught in both state and private schools across KS1-KS3, alongside private tutoring.

As a primary specialist, I am fully aware of the curriculum, current pedagogy and a wide variety of teaching methods. Most importantly of all, I love teaching and learning. I take great pleasure in seeing the children I teach flourish and gain confidence, whatever their needs and personalities.

It’s fantastic what one-to-one tutoring can achieve, and I relish creating a safe atmosphere in which children can learn, enquire and grow. Personally and professionally, I am a huge advocate of a ‘growth mindset’: we are all growing and learning, so what matters most is a positive attitude, a readiness to learn and a determination not to be defeated by challenges.

I have prepared many children for the 11+ and am well versed in developing strategies for demystifying verbal and non-verbal reasoning. I ensure that your child is fully prepared to structure creative written responses which showcase strong grammatical techniques and the ability to meet the rigours of mark schemes.

I can also support your child with interview techniques and preparation for independent schools. If your child is preparing for scholarships, I have supported many pupils in reaching and exceeding their potential through positive encouragement and tailored guidance.

I also greatly enjoy supporting children who are not preparing for entrance exams. Many children can become lost in larger classroom settings, and I love seeing them make great strides in both confidence and attainment. I tailor sessions according to each child’s individual needs and view inclusivity as the foundation of my teaching approach. Above all, I aim to make our sessions enjoyable, encouraging and positive.
