JOSEPH
English GCSE, A-Levels
Biography
I am a qualified examiner for both English language and literature, with a QTS, PhD and three years of classroom experience teaching English and History. I have had a lifelong passion for History and Literature, and my favourite place to be is lost somewhere in the English countryside. I am an avid follower of multiple sports, including cricket, football, basketball and baseball and enjoy spouting random trivia facts and figures!
I am patient, analytical and easy-going, and I deeply care about helping my students attain excellence in their studies. I specialise in helping students identify the areas where they are strongest and providing building blocks to help them reach the next level.
I have taught English and History at local secondary schools for 3 years, from years 7-11 inclusive (2023-2026). While I was completing my PhD and working as a University Chaplain in Bristol, I built up over 650 hours of tutoring experience (2015-2022), primarily teaching GCSE History and English Literature A level, although I have also tutored 13+.
I have been an AQA GCSE examiner since 2025, marking over 400 question 5 responses for paper 2 (transactional writing) and 564 paper 1 scripts this summer (mostly Macbeth, A Christmas Carol, Jekyll and Hyde, Romeo and Juliet), so I am very familiar with exam board requirements and how to maximise your potential!
