Situated in Godalming, Surrey, Charterhouse is a world-famous co-educational boarding school for pupils aged 13 to 18. Combining traditional heritage with modern academic choices including A-Levels and the IB Diploma, entry into Year 9 is highly selective.
Understanding the 13+ Selection Journey
Registration should be completed while candidates are in Year 5.
Stage 1: Digital Pre-Testing (Autumn Term, Year 6)
Candidates complete the online ISEB Common Pre-Test during October or November of Year 6. Results are evaluated alongside a confidential progress report from the candidate's current school.
Stage 2: Interview & Activity Afternoon (Spring Term, Year 6)
Candidates who pass the pre-test threshold visit Charterhouse in January or February of Year 6:
-
One-on-One Interview: Candidates discuss their academic passions, wider reading, and extra-curricular interests with a senior housemaster or tutor.
-
Group Workshop: Practical exercises testing leadership, problem-solving, and communication.
-
Offers: Conditional offers are made in spring of Year 6 and confirmed via Year 8 Common Entrance or internal academic streaming tests.
