Modern Co-Educational Agility: Navigating 11+ Entry at Reigate Grammar School (RGS)

Located in Surrey, Reigate Grammar School is an award-winning, selective co-educational day school welcoming around 160 new pupils into Year 7 each September. Celebrated for its innovation and strong value-add, RGS seeks out well-rounded children who display intellectual curiosity alongside personal warmth.

The RGS Assessment & Interview Matrix

All registered candidates sit an in-house examination held on-site in early January of Year 6:

  • Written Mathematics Paper (45 mins): A non-calculator, standard-form exam assessing Key Stage 2 mathematical concepts, problem-solving, and logical application rather than memorised procedures.

  • Written English Paper (60 mins): Split into a 30-minute reading comprehension task and a 30-minute creative composition section evaluated for imaginative flair, syntax, and structural control.

  • Reasoning Paper: A paper assessing both Verbal and Non-Verbal reasoning skills.

  • The Dual Interview Stage (January): Shortlisted candidates attend an individual interview with a staff member alongside a relaxed, conversational group interview with the Headmaster.

Our Approach

Exceptional Academics tutors work extensively with pupils to master non-calculator mathematical logic and timed essay mechanics. We also conduct mock group interview simulations to ensure students express their personality and ideas comfortably in front of the Headmaster.
