Assessment Breakdown

Stage 1: The ISEB Common Pre-Test

An online, age-adaptive assessment consisting of four multiple-choice sections:

  • English: Reading comprehension, sentence completion, spelling, and punctuation.

  • Mathematics: Key Stage 2/3 numerical reasoning, arithmetic, geometry, and word problems.

  • Verbal Reasoning: Ciphers, vocabulary relationships, and word-logic patterns.

  • Non-Verbal Reasoning: Spatial 2D pattern manipulation and 3D cube folding logic.

Stage 2: The Eton List Test & Assessment Day

Shortlisted candidates attend Eton College for a tailored assessment:

  • Eton List Test: A proprietary computerised test with strict per-question timers (6 to 75 seconds per item). Includes rapid proofreading (scrolling text tasks), numerical logic, and odd-word-out linguistic analysis.

  • Creative Writing Task: A 5- to 10-minute written task assessing persuasive argument or descriptive creativity.

  • Personal Interview: A 15-minute 1-on-1 conversation testing academic curiosity, independent thinking, and enthusiasm for boarding life.
