Biography

Sophia is a qualified teacher with QTS and has served as a Head of History, with extensive teaching experience across the wider Humanities including Politics, Sociology, and Religious Studies. Her experience spans state schools, private schools, and international education, and she currently teaches Humanities at an international school. That breadth means she understands the different demands and expectations of each setting, including international programmes and IGCSE, and she brings that awareness to every student she works with.

Every student she has worked with has come to her with something different: a subject they have fallen behind in, an exam they are anxious about, coursework they are struggling with, or a gap in their knowledge that is holding them back. Over ten years of teaching across schools, sixth forms, and one-to-one tutoring, she has learnt that understanding the person in front of you matters more than any programme or plan. That is where she always starts.

As mentioned earlier, before anything else, she wants to understand how a student thinks, what has not worked for them before, and what they want to achieve. From there, she builds sessions around them, whether that means revision strategy, coursework support, exam technique, or rebuilding confidence in a subject they have come to dread. A first session is never just content. It is a conversation. And the plan they put together comes from that, not from a fixed programme she applies to everyone.

What she wants every student to take away is not just better grades but a clearer sense of how they learn and what they are capable of. That is what good tutoring looks like to her, and it is what she works towards with every student she takes on. 

Teaching Experience

Crucially, Sophia knows what exam boards are looking for because she has taught across Edexcel, AQA, Cambridge International, and OCR, and she has experience as a qualified examiner. She teaches students to read a mark scheme the way an examiner does. Her GCSE and A-Level results have brought year-on-year success, and as Head of History her department delivered results twenty percent above the national average.

She has supported learners with dyslexia, ADHD, and autism throughout her career and has a strong understanding of what genuinely helps, not just for attainment but for how students feel about themselves as learners. She also has extensive experience with EAL students and is well versed at breaking down complex ideas into manageable steps without sacrificing the nuance and complexity that the subject demands.

In History, she teaches across medieval, early modern, and modern periods, which means she can cover most specifications rather than a narrow slice of the syllabus. In Religious Studies, her specialism is Christianity, with extensive knowledge of other world religions and the philosophical and ethical traditions that appear across GCSE and A-Level courses. In Politics, she covers the UK and US systems at A-Level with a strong grounding in ideology: socialism, conservatism, feminism, fascism and globalism. Students often find ideology the most abstract part of the course, and she puts particular effort into making those ideas feel grounded and relevant.

In Sociology, she teaches at both GCSE and A-Level, focusing on building the kind of theoretical understanding and precision that the higher mark bands reward.
