Gibson
Maths 11+, GCSE
Biography
I grew up in Hong Kong and attended the University of Hong Kong, where I studied for a BSc in Mathematics from 1990-1993. I later completed an MSc in Business Economics at the Chinese University of Hong Kong from 2011-2012, where I was awarded a scholarship for academic excellence. After graduation, I joined the commercial sector and worked in management positions within US and European technology companies. During this time, I also tutored part-time MBA students at the Open University of Hong Kong.
Teaching Experience
I began tutoring Mathematics while at university to support my expenses. When my twin daughter and son turned 8, I homeschooled them in Maths. They rose to the challenge and achieved a grade A in Cambridge IGCSE Maths at the age of 10, and a grade B in Edexcel IGCSE Further Pure Maths at the age of 11. Last year, both began their studies at medical schools in London.
Since relocating from Hong Kong to London a few years ago, I have resumed tutoring, specialising in Maths and Science for students of all ages up to A-level. I have worked with students of varying abilities and ambitions across different settings, including private in-person tuition, tuition centres, and SEMH (social, emotional, and mental health) schools. This experience has shaped me into a caring tutor focused on helping each student achieve their individual goals.
Some of my experience highlights include:
-
Assisting an A-level student in gaining entry to the Computer Science programme at Stanford University, USA.
-
Supporting a number of students in achieving GCSE passes, enabling them to continue with their chosen courses.
-
Helping students achieve the required grades in UKISET and 11+ examinations for reputable UK boarding and day schools.
Interests
I speak fluent English and Chinese and have a passion for different cultures. In my leisure time, I enjoy watching movies and football.
