Our Approach

At Exceptional Academics our approach is very simple: we love learning; we love our subjects, and we love fostering that love of learning in our students, which we hope will continue into their adult lives.

The first step in establishing how we can best help your child is either by email or phone. This may be for Online Tuition, One to One Tuition, SEND Learning or Booster Courses. We then ask that you complete a Student Information Form, which allows us to gather essential information and helps us determine how to work best with your child.

The Student Information Form is designed to help us to get to know your child, their likes and dislikes, and learning style. Consequently, this enables us to match the best tutor to your child's academic needs. This can be found using the Contact button below:

At Exceptional Academics, we have created bespoke assessment papers that your child  completes at the start of the tutoring process. These written assessments allow the tutor to identify areas where specific support is required and where further challenge is essential.

After the initial assessment, our son's strongest and weakest areas were identified. His tutor tailored her teaching accordingly to ensure his weak areas were addressed immediately.

Individual Learning Programme

Our Individual Learning Programme takes into account the assessment outcomes; the personality of the student; the aims of the tutoring and the learning style of your child.

Whether our lessons are Online or One to One Tuition, our learning plans are developed as a combination of accumulated knowledge from our directors, Dara & Matthew, the tutor assigned to you and the information we have gathered from you and the assessment. This collaborative outlook allows us to provide exceptional education for your future visionaries.

During lessons, through inspirational teaching, our approach is to cultivate inquiry and build our student’s confidence so that they become independent learners and eventually the masters of their own learning.

We see our role as tutors as supporting schools in making the framework and curriculum visible to students and parents alike whilst taking learning far beyond the sometimes, narrow constraints of exam curriculum. We want to instil in all our pupils genuine curiosity and love about our subjects.

Our tutor has the very rare skill of using a child’s existing attributes to shape their thinking beyond the constraints of prescriptive learning that leads to the long-term development of a child.

Continual Assessment

Throughout our lessons, we assess orally and more formally through written tasks and end of topic assessments. In the case of our exam students, we formally assess frequently by means of past examination papers so that progress is monitored closely by us and subsequently communicated to parents.

After each lesson, we provide a weekly report on our software TutorCruncher or by email, ensuring parents are constantly updated about their child’s progress.

Parental Involvement

At Exceptional Academics, our approach is to instil a love of learning, beginning at home. We work together, with you as parents, to do this.

In 2003, Charles Deforges completed an influential report for the British government, which confirmed the crucial impact of parental involvement on pupil attainment.

His report’s most important finding was that parental involvement 'has a significant positive effect on children’s achievement and adjustment even after all other factors shaping attainment have been taken out of the equation. In the primary age range the impact caused by different levels of parental involvement is much bigger than differences associated with variations in the quality of schools. The scale of the impact is evident across all social classes and all ethnic groups.'

Our tutor provided us, as parents, with all the necessary tools with which to support learning.
